About Reducil

Your medicine is called Sibutramine Capsules.
Each 10mg capsule contains 10mg of the active ingredient sibutramine hydrochloride monohydrate
equivalent to 8.37mg of sibutramine. Each hard capsule have a blue cap and a yellow body with the letter
10 inscribed on it.
Each 15mg capsule contains 15mg of the active ingredient sibutramine hydrochloride monohydrate
equivalent to 12.55mg of sibutramine. Each hard capsule have a blue cap and a white body with the letter
15 inscribed on it.
Sibutramine Capsules also contain the following inactive ingredients; microcrystalline cellulose, lactose
monohydrate, magnesium stearate, Indigo carmine (E132), gelatin, colloidal anhydrous silica, titanium
dioxide (E171), quinoline yellow (E104), sodium lauryl sulphate, dimeticone, iron oxides and iron hydroxides
(E172), shellac, soyabean lecithin (E322) and titanium dioxide (E172).
Sibutramine Capsules are available as calendar blister packs of 28 capsules.

Before you take Reducil

You should NOT take Sibutramine Capsules if one or more of these points applies to you and you haven t
talked it through with your doctor, talk to your doctor before you start taking Sibutramine Capsules:
If you are allergic to sibutramine or to any of the other ingredients
If you have high blood pressure (more than 145/90), or a history of heart problems, hardening of the
arteries or of strokes.
If you have liver or kidney problems or if you have problems with your prostrate or thyroid or growths
on the adrenal glands (phaeochromocytoma)
If you are pregnant, might become pregnant or you are breast feeding.
If you are over 65, or under 18
If you have ever had anorexia or bulimia
If you have a psychiatric illness, or have taken other medicines in the last fortnight to treat depression
or psychiatric illness.
If you have taken tryptophan for disturbed sleep, or phentermine or diethylpropion (amfepramone) for
weight reduction in the last fortnight.
If you have the eye disease, narrow angle glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye). Ask your doctor
or optician if you think you have glaucoma, but are not sure which type (see also Take special care ).
If you have a history of drug or alcohol problems

How to take Sibutramine Capsules

Getting the dose right
The usual dose
Adults aged 18 to 65:
Take 1 capsule every morning.
Swallow it whole, with a glass of water. Keep to this dose unless your doctor told you something different.
You can take Sibutramine Capsules with or without food.
Don t give Sibutramine Capsules to children.

How long to take it:

You should only take Sibutramine Capsules as part of your weight loss programme. Your doctor s practice
will see you regularly to see how you are doing. If you don t lose weight in the first three months, or if you put
weight on, your doctor may stop prescribing Sibutramine Capsules for you. In any case, Sibutramine
Capsules usually shouldn t be prescribed for more than one year.

What to do if overdose is taken;

It is always important to follow the recommended dose on the label. If too many tablets are taken by accident
consult your doctor or go to the nearest hospital casualty department immediately. Remember to take this
leaflet or any remaining tablets with you to show the doctor what you have taken.

What to do if you miss a dose:

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, then carry on as before. Do not exceed the stated
dose.

When you stop taking Reducil:

It s unusual to get withdrawal symptoms. On rare occasions, some people may get headaches or have
increased appetites once they stop taking the capsules.

After taking your medicine:

Like all medicines Sibutramine Capsules can cause side effects in some people.
Most people don t. Most people who get side effects get them early on (in the first four weeks) and find they
wear off over time. Generally, side effects are mild enough for people to decide to carry on taking
Sibutramine Capsules.
The most common side effects. These might affect 10 in every 100 people or more
Digestive system Loss of appetite; constipation; dry mouth.
Other Problems sleeping.
If these effects bother you, talk to a doctor or pharmacist.
Other common side effects
These might affect between 1 and 10 in every 100 people
Heart and circulation Fast heartbeats; palpitations; abnormal heart rhythm; raised blood pressure; hot
flushes.
Digestive system Feeling sick; making piles (haemorrhoids) worse.
Skin Sweating.
